Atlantic Puffin In water, they are able to dive 60 meters deep to hunt for food. On land, they can flap their wings up to 400 times a minute to reach speeds of up to 88 kilometres an hour.

Polar Bear Walking at speeds around 5-6
kilometers per hour and swimming at speeds of about 10 kilometers per hour, polar bears are natural travelers.

Bighorn Sheep Found in the Rocky Mountains, horns on these muscular sheep can weigh up to 14 kilograms. Older males have been found with horns almost a meter long! Females have shorter and only slightly curved horns.

Walrus The long ivory tusks which easily identify the walrus are actually extended canine teeth. They can be found on both females and males, but are much longer on males.

Moose Moose are the tallest mammals in North America and the largest member of the deer family. Males weigh, on average, 400 kilograms and females a slightly smaller 350 kilograms. They eat up to 10,000 calories a day!

Beaver The largest rodent in North America, beavers can swim underwater for up to 15 minutes. Their nose and ears shut to keep water out and they have transparent inner eyelids to help them see underwater.

Canada Goose These migratory birds are generally found close to fresh water, although many have moved into urban areas that provide abundant food and fewer predators. The gander (male) is a fierce defender of his family and will often charge at suspected threats.

Common Loon Known for their haunting calls, loons are fast swimming, vocal birds found throughout Canada. They spend the majority of their time in water and only head to land to nest.

Caribou Caribou are migratory animals that live in forests, mountains and tundra throughout the year. They are known to snort to communicate with one another and can sound like pigs.

Southern Resident Killer Whale Also known as an orca, this endangered species is found on the west coast of Canada. 74 orcas make up three unique pods comprised of several family units within each.

Arctic Fox These small animals don’t hibernate during the winter, but can hunker down in their den for up to two weeks at a time. Their coats change colour from white during the winter to a more brown or bluish-grey in the summer.
