CREATE A WATER OASIS It’s not too late in the season to add a water feature to your garden or balcony. You can purchase a pre-built water feature at your local home improvement store or you can purchase the elements separately and get as creative as you'd like. Most fountains are made from stone, but others are fabricated with metal, resin, fiberglass or concrete. Balance durability and affordability to find a material that will meet your design desires, environmental conditions and budget. Stone, concrete and metal water features should be more durable but will likely cost more whereas fiberglass and resin fountains will be more affordable but may not stand up to all weather conditions. A fountain can be a stand-alone feature, or it can be incorporated into a larger water oasis. When constructing a larger water feature, you can incorporate solar lights, plants, animal and bird feeders and even fish. Start by drawing up a sketch of the area and all the elements you’d like to include then head to your local home improvement store or garden center to pick up the supplies. The best part of an outdoor water feature is that you can build onto it every season making it change to suit your needs and wants over time. Start small and grow as you become more familiar with the maintenance required or scale back as your needs change.

GIVE YOUR VEHICLE A GOOD CLEANING

Whether it's a season of road trips to the lake, daily trips to summer camp or activities around town, your vehicle can get quite the work out over the summer months. And with that extra use comes some extra dirt and grime. Take some time this weekend to give your vehicle a thorough clean to help everyone feel a little better about hopping in for another ride to another adventure. Begin by removing all the garbage and recyclable pieces that have accumulated in the seats, doors, floor and hidden crevices. Once your garbage is removed, grab your vacuum cleaner and vacuum all of the tight spaces where dirt and crumbs and such have fallen. Use the hand attachment to really get into those hard-to-reach places as dropped food can attract insects and can smell over time. Once those spaces are cleared, vacuum the floorboards after removing the mats, giving them a separate vacuum. When your vacuuming is done, grab a cloth and wipe down your seats. If they're leather (or leather like) use an appropriate cleaning product to wipe them clean. If they're fabric, vacuuming should help, but you can also use a spot cleaner to remove stains and then an upholstery cleaner solution to remove regular dirt and grime. Finish off by cleaning the interior of the windows with a glass cleaner or good old vinegar and water. The dashboard and any similar surfaces can be washed with mild soap and water or use a product made specifically for vehicle interiors. Once your interior is sparkling and clean you’ll be ready for the rest of the summer and preparing for the fall and winter will be a breeze as a lot of the work is already done.
