TIPS ON CHOOSING A RUG FOR YOUR ENTRYWAY Your entrance is the first area of your home both you and your guests see. Want to make a statement while still keeping it highly functional? You need a great rug! Depending on the size and shape of your entrance, you may only have room for a doormat. Or, if you have a long and narrow entrance, a runner would be perfect. If you have enough space for an area rug, then you have more room to make a visual impact. If you have a square shaped entrance, see if a round area rug will fit, which will add a unique feel as most homes have square or rectangular entrance mats. As for color and pattern, the best option for impact as well as the ability to look great year after year is a darker patterned rug. A light rug will show everything, while a solid dark rug won’t fair much better. Patterns tend to hide dirt and grime as whatever is on the rug simply blends in. If you have a particularly messy household – think kids and pets – you may want to go with a washable rug. You can just throw them in with the rest of your laundry!
