DIYSCRABBLETILEDECOR Love word art? Love words in general? Then this DIY decor project is for you. All you’ll need is a set of scrabble tiles, a hot glue gun with glue sticks and a shadow-box style frame. First, decide what words you want to display and in what formation. Names are a popular choice – first or last. You could also

select words that mean something to you. If you’re putting your scrabble tile decor in a certain room – the laundry room for example, you could use words like wash, soap, fold. Just remember – if you want the words to overlap they need to share at

least one letter with another word. Once you’ve made your decision, lay them out in the shadow box to make sure your arrangement fits. Then simply glue down in place and display with pride.

HEALTHYRAMENBOWLS INGREDIENTS: 2 tablespoons olive oil 1 (3.5 oz) package of shiitake mushrooms, sliced

1/2 yellow onion, diced 10 cups vegetable broth salt to taste 2 packages ramen noodles (2 standard servings) 4 soft boiled eggs, cut in half (boil for 7 minutes, then add to ice water, peel) 2 cups beef, chicken, pork or tofu 1/2 cup shredded carrots 1/4 cup chopped green onions 1/2 cup sliced nori sheets Soy sauce, chilies, sriracha, hot sauce for serving (optional) DIRECTIONS: 1. Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium high heat. Add the onions and mushrooms, cooking until softened and the mushrooms have darkened. 2. Add the broth, and bring to a gentle simmer. Sample the broth, adding salt to taste. 3. Add the noodles to the broth. Cook until just before al dente (2-3 minutes). 4. Once the noodles have cooked, remove and add to a bowl or storage container. This will prevent the noodles from overcooking and becoming mushy. 5. Add the protein, carrots, and green onions to the broth. 6. Dole out noodles and eggs to each bowl. Top with the hot broth, protein and veggies. Add nori, soy sauce, chilies, sriracha or hot sauce if desired.

BRIDGEGENERATIONSWITHGARDENING Gardening is something that can be done by everyone from the very young to the very old. And it’s more fun when you do it together! A grandmother and granddaughter planting flowers. A father showing his son how to prepare soil for growing vegetables. If you’d love to get your children – or grandchildren – more involved in gardening, here are a few pointers on how kids like to garden. • Give them their own space. Even a small pot will do, but they need to feel ownership over their “garden.” • Start with easy to grow plants. Kids like to see quick results. Although, learning to wait for a seed to sprout is a great lesson in patience. • Let children eat carrots covered in dirt and apples straight from the tree. They’ll feel close to nature and get their fruits and veggies in to boot!

ARCHITECTURE ISHOPE Chinese architect Li Hu – founder of experimental design and research studio OPEN Architecture – believes architecture is a means of connecting with others and the world around us. And – more importantly – he believes architecture is hope. “No matter how angry we get about our world, when we work we express our hope. We inject it into everything we do.” He prefers to think of architecture as art rather than a business and feels that architects need to slow down and think before they design. He also admits he is idealistic, but that sometimes – idealism is what the world needs most.

HAVEFUNWITHPLAYFULDECOR Why not have fun with your home decor? It’s what designers are currently doing! Certainly, stark white kitchens and buttoned-up living rooms are still an option, but these days – a little playfulness goes a long way. Designers are using words like “charm” and “whimsy” to describe their own decor styles, with some noting it only takes one or two fun items in a room to set it apart from the ordinary. Examples of this approach could be a couch in a surprising shade – hot pink or bright yellow, an unusually shaped lamp, or a bold wallpaper. Artwork is always a great way to add personality. Plus, it can easily be swapped out if you tire of it or crave something new. It’s all about using your decor to tell a story. All you need to do is decide what story you want to tell and then go for it!

GTA REALTORS ® Release April 2019 Stats Toronto Real Estate Board President

657,093 condo UP 1.12% last month

1,355,764 detached UP 6.96% last month

Garry Bhaura announced that Greater Toronto Area REALTORS ® reported a substantial year-over-year increase in home sales in April 2019. The number of residential transactions jumped by 16.8 per cent to 9,042 compared to 7,744 in April 2018. New listings were also up year-over- year by eight per cent. However, the annual growth rate for new listings was much lower than that reported for sales. This suggests that market conditions continued to tighten which points toward an acceleration in price growth. “The strong year-over-year growth in sales is obviously a good news story and likely represents some catchup from a slow start to the year,” said Mr. Bhaura. Composite benchmark was up by 3.2 per cent – the highest rate of growth in more than a year. The average selling price was up by 1.9 per cent to $820,148, representing the strongest annual rate of growth so far in 2019. On a preliminary seasonally adjusted basis, the average selling price was also up by 1.1 per cent compared to March 2019.
