FOUR NO-FAIL HOME DECOR TIPS With home decor trends ever changing, how do you ensure the items you choose for your home today will still be in style tomorrow? “Style”may be a highly personal thing, but what we like and don’t like at any given time is influenced by what’s trending around us. Thankfully, there are a few guidelines you can follow to help you cultivate an interior space you’ll love for years to come. 1. Not having a plan is the quickest way to become overwhelmed and wind up with a mish-mosh of decor that just doesn’t quite work. Start with a single piece of furniture or an accent item that you love. Then, think of ways you can build around that item to achieve the end result you’re going for. 2. Save the wild colours, patterns and shapes for your accessories and artwork. Bigger pieces like furniture should be timeless. Think simple, clean lines and neutral colours. 3. White can be challenging if you have small children or pets in your home, but there’s a reason why the pages of any design magazine – during any era – will feature homes filled with white items. Because white is a classic! Plus, it’s a fantastic backdrop for more trendy colours and prints. 4. Anytime you consider buying a new piece for your home, ask yourself “will I still love this in five years?” If the answer is unequivocally “yes” – then go for it!
