Recipe: Christmas Morning Wife Saver from the Best of Bridge Jennifer's Favourite Things... INGREDIENTS:

1/4 cup minced onion 60 mL 1/4 cup finely chopped green pepper 60mL 1-2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce 5-10 mL 3 cups milk 750 mL dash Tabasco 1/2 cup butter 125 mL Special K or crushed Corn Flake s

16 slices white bread, crusts removed 16 slices Canadian back bacon or ham 16 slices sharp cheddar cheese 6 eggs 1/2 tsp. pepper 2 mL 1/2-1 tsp. dry mustard 2-5 mL

DIRECTIONS: 1. Set 8 pieces of bread into a 9" x 13" (23 x 33 cm) buttered, glass baking dish. 2. Cover bread with slices of back bacon. Lay slices of cheddar cheese on top of bacon and then cover with remaining slices of bread to make it like a sandwich. 3. In a bowl, beat eggs and pepper. To the egg mixture add dry mustard, onion, green pepper, Worcestershire sauce, milk and Tabasco. Pour over the sandwiches, cover and let stand in fridge overnight. 4. In the morning, melt butter, pour over top. Cover with Special K or crushed Corn Flakes. 5. Bake, uncovered, 1 hour at 350 deg.F (180 deg.C). Let sit 10 minutes before serving.

Recipe: SKOR BIT SHORTBREAD MELTAWAYS Marlene's Favourite Things...

INGREDIENTS: 1 cup unsalted butter softened 2 tsp vanilla 1/2 cup icing sugar 1 3/4 cup pastry flour 1/2 cup corn starch 3/4 tsp baking powder 1/4 tsp salt 1 cup Skor bits DIRECTIONS 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees 2. In a large bowl beat butter and vanilla together until creamy

3. In a separate bowl combine the icing sugar, flour, corn starch, baking powder and salt. Then gradually stir into butter batter. Add Skor bits and mix till evenly distributed. Cover with plastic wrap and chill in the fridge for 10-15 minutes. 4. Line baking sheet with parchment paper. Roll heaping teaspoons full of batter into balls and place on the baking sheet. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until starting to just turn slightly golden. Let cool on pan for 5 minutes so they won't break apart and then transfer to a cooling rack. Favourite Christmas Activities: Christmas Eve Service at church & Making Christmas dinner for my 4 girls, 4 son’s in law, 9 Grandkids and any (friends and family who visit) that come along each Christmas for dinner.

Recipe: Whipped Shortbread Cherry Cookies Katherine's Favourite Things... INGREDIENTS: 1 cup (0.5 lb, 227g) unsalted butter, softened 1/4 cup (1.4oz, 40g) corn starch 1 1/2 cups (7.5oz, 213g) all-purpose flour, sifted 1/2 cup (2oz, 57g) powdered sugar, sifted 1/2 teaspoon (2.5mL) vanilla 15 candied cherries, sliced in half DIRECTIONS 2. Add the corn starch, flour, powdered sugar, and vanilla, and whip until light and fluffy. Make sure to whip the dough until it comes together into a ball and isn't crumbly at all (see Notes). 3. Roll the dough into small balls, about 1 tablespoon each, and place them about 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. 4. Dip a fork into a small bowl of flour and press the cookies down with it to flatten them. Make sure to dip the fork into the flour and shake off the excess before flattening each cookie so that it doesn’t stick. 5. Place half a cherry in the middle of each cookie, pressing it down lightly. 6. Bake for 12-14 minutes. 7. Allow to cool on the cookie sheet for 5 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely. Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for 7 days, or freeze for up to 3 months. Favourite Christmas Activities: Secret Santa, Baking, Having cinnamon buns and coffee in the morning before opening gifts. 1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Slice the candied cherries in half. In a large bowl, or the bowl of a stand mixer, cream the butter until smooth and fluffy.

Recipe: Ginger Snaps Anika's Favourite Things... INGREDIENTS: 2 cups flour ½ tsp salt 2 tsp baking soda 1 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp clover 1 tsp ginger COMBINE: ¾ cup white sugar ¾ margarine 4 tbs molasses 1 egg DIRECTIONS 1. Mix and shape into walnut sized balls. 2. Roll in sugar & place on a greased cookie/baking sheet 3. Bake for approximately 13 minutes at 300 degrees Fahrenheit 4. Cookies will flatten as they bake

Favourite Christmas Activity: Relaxing by the fireplace while someone else takes initiative to set up the Christmas tree.

Recipe: Mom's Mince Meat Pies Brenda's Favourite Things...

DIRECTIONS 1. Use bottled mince meat – add small pieces of apple to the mince meat. 2. Let stand in refrigerator until a couple days before Christmas. 3. Fill unbaked tart shells with the Mince Meat mixture. 4. Top with crumble – ½ cup flour, ½ cup white sugar, 4 tablespoon butter; mix till crumble; sprinkle over top of tarts. 5. Bake at 400 degrees about 25 minutes. 6. Heat before serving and top with a scoop of whipped cream to serve.

Favourite Christmas Activity: Making turkey dinner for family and friends and enjoying their company.

Recipe: Snickerdoodles INGREDIENTS: 3 cups (375g) all-purpose flour (spoon & leveled) 2 teaspoons cream of tartar* 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 and 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 cup (2 sticks or 230g) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature 1 and 1/3 cup (267g) granulated sugar 1 large egg + 1 large egg yolk, at room temperature 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract TOPPING 1/3 cup (70g) granulated sugar 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

DIRECTIONS 1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line two large cookie sheets with parchment paper 2. Make the topping: Combine the granulated sugar and cinnamon together in a small bowl. 3. Make the cookies: Whisk together the flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt together in a medium bowl. 4. In a large bowl using a hand mixer or stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, beat the butter and granulated sugar together on high speed until smooth and creamy, about 2 minutes. Add the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla

extract. Beat on medium-high speed until combined. With the mixer running on low speed, slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients in 3 different parts. The dough will be thick. 5. Roll cookie dough into balls, about 1.5 Tablespoons of cookie dough each. Roll the dough balls in cinnamon-sugar topping. Arrange 3 inches apart on the baking sheets. 6. Bake cookies for 10 minutes. The cookies will be very puffy and soft. Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 10 minutes and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Favourite Christmas Activities: Listening to the kids sneak out of bed early in the morning to check their stockings, though if it’s too early, we turn them around to go back to bed!!! I also love sitting by the crackling fire with a warm Christmas-y drink and of course, a big turkey dinner with the whole family!
